My friend Trevor and I were going to be evacuated, our paretns thougth it would be a good idea, and one of the placess they could send us was Canada - when they told us we were very excited - it meant going on a big boat across the sea to another country. This was all agreed with the powers that be, we were to go by train to Liverpool and then on a boat. They issued us with name tags and instructions then 2 days before we were due to leave it was all cancelled noboddy said why. However, we did learn at a later date that it was because a ship had been sunk with about 1500 children on board being evacuated to Canada.
