My story begins sometime in November 1943 when an American tank arrived in a small township in County Down the soldiers in it where looking for fresh eggs which my mother sold from our house. My father who had been in the great war also was at this time serving on a ship somewhere near Russia. This was the beginning of a relationship between my mother and an American native all I have of my blood father is a tattered photo of him and his mates but the resemblance between us is amazing. I learnt these facts when in my twenties though always knew I was different in looks from my sisters and brother. My father who must have been very much in love with my mother accepted me as his own and was one of the best fathers a girl could have. I have always wished I could have found out more of the soldiers and their tank what they were doing in Notheren ireland and what happened to them in the war. This is my own personal little story of the war and I certainly didnt endure the hard times others did but it always left me hoping that one day I would see this man who was my father in blood only.
