I interviewed my Great Grandma about World War Two. The interview lasted for about half an hour. She was about 16 years old when the War first started. The first question I asked her was "How did you feel when the War first started?". She said, "Well I felt a bit scared but you just have to get on with your normal life. I was a bit emotional."
When the first air raid went off she used to run to the Anderson shelter. The longest she was in the shelter was about 10 hours. When the first air raid attack started she felt a bit scared, her Mum and Dad were in the shelter with her and the first thing she said was, "Are we going to be safe?". Her Mum replied anxiously, "I don't really know." She passed some time by playing cards, it had been about half an hour and then they got the all clear, so they all got out of the shelter and walked home.
My Great Grandma was getting bored, staying at home doing nothing, so she went out on her bogey down the cobbled street and found a friend to play with. Once when the air raid siren sounded for the eighth time that week, my grandma's mum was just about to cook the tea so my grandma missed her tea again! Fortunately there was food and drink in the shelter.
Finally the War came to an end. It was announced on the radio that the Allies had beaten the Nazis. The best thing about the War was that we had won the War and that things could get back to normal.
