There was special tape to use on the windows. We and our neighbours used it on ours. There were also dark curtains so no light was shown, not even a slit. You had to put the light out before you opened the door. The Air Raid Wardens would walk round and there was any light showing they would shout "PUT THAT LIGHT OUT!"
We went out in the black out with a torch low down. We went carol singing from the church just the same.
Dad was an air raid warden and then a fire man at Liverpool Docks. We were very worried. My father's cousin was killed in the Blitz.
All our boy friends were Air Gadets or in the Home Guard etc.
We all had identity cards.
It was difficult finding our way when making a journey as all the road signs had been taken down. Beaches and some roads had cement blockages.
