Norman Sykes, my uncle, who lived at Haugh Lane, Wombwell was a war correspondent. He worked for Pathe News, right amongst the fighting. I have film footage that he took which I have put onto DVD. The films show fighting on the ground and bombs being dropped. His name is on the credits of Pathe News films.
My dad was in the air force and my mum worked at ICI in Huddersfield. I went to Agnes Road School. There was a stone air raid shelter with a concrete roof in the schoolyard.
My dad came home on compassionate leave towards the end of the war as my mum was very poorly. It was very strange; he was a transport driver in France.
