87 year old Issac Higginson from Ballyclare served in the navy from 1939 -1948.
He was based on HMS Valiant Battleship from 1939-1942 and then went to serve on HMS Black Prince.
He was on the HMS Valiant leaving Gibralta when the Captain unexpectedly announced that they were heading to Liverpool to take 5 days leave.
Issac reached Belfast on the Tuesday,married his sweetheart Isa Drummond on the Thursday and left again Saturday.
He was not to see her for another 2 years.
Issac had carried the ring on his person, whilst in active service, for over year just waiting for this opportunity.
His tenacity and optimism paid off!
