I remember my gas mask which used to terrify me. It felt as though I would suffocate when I put it on. We used to have to take these masks to school every day, they folded up and fitted into small boxes.

One evening this man came with his van to the village green and we had to go to him to have the gas masks tested. Mine was never tested because I would not keep it on long enough. Fortunately I was never in a situation that needed me to.
