The one thing I remember about the war was the blackouts. It was so dark, you really can鈥檛 appreciate today just how black it was.
I remember when I was 9, I was walking back from my aunt Annie鈥檚 with some friends and it was so dark that I walked into a wall and banged my head.
When I got home a lump like an egg had come up on my head and I remember my mum spreading margarine on it with a knife to take down the swelling
