You were only allowed, for each person in your house, two ounces of margarine, two ounces of lard, two ounces of bacon, what you bought from the shop, you didn’t really go without bread, you’d always get bread, but you’d get so much tea and two ounces of sugar. And say if you had four children, that would be four lots of two ounces, and butter, well you got it only sometimes, you couldn’t always get butter, that was one of the things that was scarce.
