I met a British soldier in Hucknall who was originally from Lincoln. He became my husband and for three years we only communicated through letters which were censored by the British authorities. My husband was based in Germany. It was his job to retrieve bodies from the tanks. He fell ill and was taken to hospital with a fever. He always said that the German staff in the hospital treated him very well.
