Mary was from a large extended family and lived in the north of the city. She had many relations in the Army, Navy and Air Force.
Mary recalls how a close relation worked in a local mill after the war. This relation had been in the Army and was now in charge of a department in the mill.
One day a member of the Royal Family was having an escorted tour of the mill. This Royal visitor recognised Mary's friend and stopped in his department. The visitor had been in the Army during the war and one day in France, he got stuck somehow in a ditch. Mary's friend helped to get him out of the ditch. They had a good laugh about it and the Royal visitor thanked him again.
