Behind our house there was a along garden there was a golf course, then two reservoirs and Staines Gasometre. There were defensive lights and guns around the reservoirs. So the Germans used them as a guide and they used to shed their bombs on the way back to Germany. You could hear the sound of gunfire and see the search lights. You could also hear the bombs dropping in the reservoir. One Doodlebug fell on the golf course, we lost all our windows. My little brother, Tony and all his friends rushed over to get some souvenirs of the bug. They tho8ght it was great fun. He brought back bits of twisted metal.
Ashford got one of the v2 rockets it fell near my grandma鈥檚 house. My brother and I rushed up there to see if she was coping. She was about 72 and was suffering with Alzheimer鈥檚 disease.
