It is often quoted how Winston Churchhill was such a much regarded war time leader, yet I vividly remember in the later years of the war that his appearance on the news slot in our local cinemas was immediately,and universively greeted by howls of protest, and stamping feet. This attitude was apparently endorsed by his massive defeat in the post war election, yet the Tory Government of John Major had the temerity of squandering 10 million pounds on his worthless doodles to the benefit of an unremarkable family.
Mr. Bevin of the same war time Cabinet received the same reception, for what reason I as an 8-9 year old had no conception, yet I now regard this gentleman as a great administrator, who forced through the establishment of the N.H.S. against the wishes of the Medical Establishment.
