I lived in Portsmouth from 1940 - 1941, but moved to Bedford in 1941. I was assigned a job at the post office working with the telegram desk. As i was working with telegrams, i saw lots of telegrams to families of the missingor the dead. One day a telegram came through it was to the family with condolence of Sir Henry Wood's death and of course when Glen Millers aircraft had gone missing, i saw many of the telegrams relationg to this before the annoucement "Missing presumed dead!". I did not talk about it because i had signed the official secrets act.
