We lived in Kersey and my mum took in two evacuees. We had two dear children, a boy and a girl, and they used to tell us what life was like in the East End of London. Mum used to make clothes for them, they had so little themselves.
They were with us a few months during the phoney war and of course nothing happened, so they went back to London. But then there was the Blitz and they came back to us and stayed for several years.
They used to enjoy helping look after the animals on our smallholding and picking fruit in our orchards.
A few years ago, I was visited by our evacuee girl. She鈥檇 flown all the way from Australia and found where I was living in Hadleigh.
