Some of the foods I enjoyed during the war where powered egg — which was great! When we went to school we were giving cod liver oil, not capsules but the oil on a teaspoon everyday. We were also given malt to build up our muscles and half a pint of milk every day at primary school. I never saw a banana, in fact didn’t know what a banana was till I was seven years old! It was lovely — when I first saw a banana I didn’t know what it was like but I thought I would take a chance. My grandmother told me it was very nice and I should try it so I did and it was lovely. I’ve continued to eat bananas! I can’t get powered egg so I don’t bother with that anymore! We use to have very milky thick custard, it was Bird’s custard and that was very enjoyable so I still eat that too.
