I can only remember two blitzes. One blitz I slept right through in the shelter but the second night the people in the other part of the shelter woke me up screaming I thought it was awful. Then all of a sudden there was a terrific crash. I thought it was coming for us. It was so frightening I could not keep still.
In the first blitz we had a fire bomb in our house. When we went into the house it was covered in soot. We got our clothes on and went to my Grandmas. I shall never forget it. Those two blitzes were on the 8th and 9th May. We had two bombs down Bean Street, one on a terrace and the other in the middle of the road. They have been a long time repairing it. When the first one dropped I was asleep in the shelter. When the second one dropped I was evacuated to Holme.
