'I was eleven when war broke out, left school at fourteen and worked at the Co-op marking Ration books. My Dad was a CSM in the Home Guard. His eldest son was killed in Normandy, he had been wounded/gassed in WW1!

I joined the Army Cadest and eventually did National Service (2 years in Hamburg Stationed in an ex Panzer Barracks - luxury compared to Army huts in the UK).
