From Imphall, the 28 Squadron went to Mandalay. The army were also there and they had located the Japanese. The army called in American bombers to bomb the area where the Japanese were. They were specified to bomb from 300 feet, but instead they bombed from 1000 feet, killing and injuring many of our own soldiers.
From Mandalsy, we went to Yeu in Burma. We stayed there for approx 3 weeks, and then we moved on because the Japanese had got wary of us. We went to Meiktila and had success in defeating the Japanese there with the use of flame throwers. This enabled us to get through with the planes (Hurricanes) and onto the airstrip.
During our stay in Meiktila, the war in Europe had just finished and the 28 squadron got togehter with various other squadrons and army platoons to partake in a celebratory football competition.
From Meiktila, we went to Mingaldon, where we changed from Hurricanes to Spitfires. We were there for about 3 or 4 months and then the Japanese surrendered.
