As I have mentioned ealier, we were a military unit--so as soon as we captured a town we set up an office to deal with problems the civilians might have.

We set up office in XANTON or CALCAR, I am not quite sure now. The occupants of the houses had to nail a list of the people staying in each house--along with the ages and sex of everyone.

The next morning, there was a queue of women waiting outside our office complaining that during the night some soldiers had toured the town--and looking at the lists on the doors for young women--had broken in and assaulted them.

They were interviewd by our C.O., who was a Canadian Major. I do not think anymore came of this incident, as we moved again the following day. The troops concerned were Canadians.
