My late father was a Section Sergeant in the 6th AA regiment, Royal Artillery. On May 28th he was carrying out his orders and checking that the guns in his section were destroyed and incapable of being used. This happenned somewhere along the Ypres/Poperinghe road.
Unfortunately his unit moved off to an assembly point at Bray dunes prior to evacuation and he was left behind. He could see German tanks a few miles away. Some Belgian refugees (there were many on the road at that time)motioned him to hide in their column which he did. He walked with them for some time until an Officer (Lt. Barbary) came back for him in a jeep. They just got away in tme. He was evacuated from the mole on May 30th or 31st.
