I was a nurse during the war, working in both Exeter and London. One of my boyfriends made me a cigarette lighter out of a couple of Royal Marine buttons.

I still have a love letter sent to me by an American soldier I was friends with. He even proposed to me once. I lost touch with him when they went over to Normandy for D-Day. I don鈥檛 even know if he survived or not.

My brother was in France as well. He was wounded near Caen. His two friends were killed. He was very depressed on his return.
