My name is Keith Robertson and this is my memories of my father.
My father was in East Yorks Fusiliers as a Warrant officer, first class. During WW2 he was based in Burhma, India and also involved in the Dunkirk Landings. He was once on HMS Lancastria which was torpedoed, he survived and was picked up by another ship which was then also hit, but sdoemhow luckily he survived! He eventally limped back to port on a third ship. My father was in the forces for 18 years, having previously been a local bus driver.
My personal earliest recollection of war is from the age of 5, the bombings are still vivid as is racing to the Anderson shelter in Milton Terrace North Shields. Next morning we picked up bits of shrappling to play with! I had a brother and 2 sisters. My mother Grace, looked after us as my father fopught for our country. I remeber father coming home after the war in 1945, he jopined up with with mousey hair and came back with a full head of white hair!!!
