"Young Johnnie Britain
Went to the kitchen
To stir the Woolton pud,
He put in his thumb
To search for a plum,
And said, "This isn't so good.

When he went up to bed,
Above, at his head,
He hung his utility stocking,
But when he awoke,
Said, "This is no joke,
There isn't a toy here - how shocking".

But in the New Year,
Young John Britain will hear,
About ships, planes and guns,
why we need them,
Making tanks for attack,
Empties Santa Claus sack -
But it's winning the Battle for Freedom!

This poem was found in a photo album of a deceased relative on a greetings card sent by friends. No printers name or identification is contained on the card.
