I remember driving to Slapton Sands to see the Leoch and sand Demes cleared of mines ready for the American Troops take over.
Another occasion (late 1942), was being at Avonmouth Docks to see the first US Troop. Their ship arrived and they were taken by rail to allocated camps.
I was stationed in the South West.
