A special little girl
Growing up, and even after I was married, gals got together at 'Knitting
Clubs'. More talking than anything else, but it was a good excuse to meet.
Today that sounds rather boring. However when I was in elementary school the War had just started and our group of youngsters decided to each dress a doll and to send them to some child in England via the Canadian Red Cross. Those were the days when girls did play house and play school and teaparty and dolls.
With much help from my Mom we dressed a doll and it safely arrived in England, taking ages it seemed to get there. I was so proud when I received a letter back from the mother of this little girl, holding the doll which 'I' had made.
Today I don't remember her name, possibly Heather, or whether she survived those harrowing days of the Battle of Britain. It warms my heart when I glance through old photos and see this photo and I always hope the little doll sent with love comforted her during trying times. I have always believed in my heart that she and her family had a good life and as she journeyed through that she had joy, good health, happiness and peace.
