The following account is best to put into context by reading my story listed under: Irene M M Sutcliffe:
My future husband Bill was selected as aircrew and after training as a Wireless Operator, was posted to No 8 Air Gunnery School at RAF Evanton. He started flying in Anson aircraft there on 24/11/1943. He trained in Air Gunnery and fired a total of 2600 rounds while there. He also used a device known as a Camera Gun which recorded his progress during the course. My son Mark has the three 25 foot rolls of film he shot on 30/11/1943 at approximately 14:00 hrs the second one 10/12/1943 at approximately mid-day and the last on Christmas Eve 1943 at approximately 13:30 hrs. He finished flying at RAF Evanton on 29/12/1943 and qualified as Air Gunner there on 31/12/1943. I have looked Evanton up on the map and I think it is 16 miles North of Inverness on the A 9 main road.
