I was married on the 5th of august 1939 i rembered neville chamberlain coming from germany and telling us peace in our time then in september we were told war had been declared
i remembered the rex cinema being bombed
the film that was on was gone with the wind
the cinema had not long been opened.
our son was born on the 20th of july 1040
i also remembered the german plane that
came down as i pushed him in his
pram to the scotchhill this was all in broad daylight.
i remember the coventry blitz in the november
it started at 6oclock in the evening the neighbours came in to sit by the fire with us
as our shelter had water in.
the bombs started to fall they made awhistling sound as they came through the air. the ak ak guns came round the streets shooting at them.after a few hours i was put on a chair under the stairs with the baby on my knee.the bombing went on all night
