Just before World War 2 began in the September, the Whatmore Repertory Compay had a long season in the Theatre and, indeed, for some weeks later - what was London's loss was Aberdeen's gain. This Company had a host of talented actors and actresses, some of whom became famous after the War, Stewart Grainger was just one. This was followed by such well-known artistes as Richard Tauber and Ivor Novello.

The Theatre also had a resident orchestra with a very elegant conductor, Lambert. I also have memories of the revolving stage.

It is hard to believe now, some sixty years later, that those occupying the orchestra stalls dressed for evening! There was always a good representation of army uniforms too. We poor students always packed out the "Gods". I don't believe that is used nowadays. The cost per head of that seat in the orchestra stalls was 7/6.
