When the war broke out I was a young girl only seven years old - I remember the German bombers following the River Wensum into Norwich.
We couldnt have a shelter at the beginning of the War so my Dad put a Chicken shed in the ground which we shared with our Neighbour also the family members from Norwich who used to walk out to our House at Hellesdon when the Bliz was on. My dad put a small fire into this shelter which he put saw-dust on it to keep us all warm. We used hear the shrapnel falling through the trees. After a few years we had a shelter in our front room and my sister and I sometime slept in it. Our clothes were always laid out at night and our shoes and gasmask put near our back door. I also remember that Grapes Hill was bombed their used to be a Hairdressers there also a shop that sold old clothes.I am now seventy one and can remember City Stabeing bombed.tion
