My grandad was sent away to war in 1940 his friend came to see him off with his wife and daughter my mother. My mum was 5 at the time and screamed and cried and ran down the platform shouting don't take my daddy please don't take my daddy. Grandads friend was only 21 and in the army he tried to cuddle and comfort mum sadly he was killed and buried in tangiers. GRandad came back and I knew him but when I went to work in LOndion age 18 he would not come to the station to collect or take me back at weekends one day he told me why he has never forgotten mums distress or how when he returned from war he did not recognise her he thought his younger daughter my aunt was her. My aunt didn't recognise her dad on return form war and ran away calling for my grandmother that a strange man was at the door. Grandad had spent his war in India and both my aunt and my mother had photo each of him which was there Grandad
