I was evacuated to Wales when I was six years old.My brother came too, he was three at the time. We lived in the East End of London and there were bombing raids every night so my mum and dad sent us away for safety. The train journey was very long and hot. Mum had packed a picnic for us and we ate all of it after only half an hour on the train. When we arrived we were taken to a school hall, and there were lots of people there to choose which children they wanted to take home with them. A fat lady with red hair picked us. Her name was Mrs White, and she and her husband lived on a farm. It was very strange going home with her.
