So I've come from London to Normandy to Antwerp, and now to Germany.
One thing that happened that was not publicly known--after we crossed the border into Germany Farms were ransacked. As we were still living on tinned rations--chickens, ducks, etc were taken to supplement our rations. It was quite common to see a tank with half a cow or a pig hanging from the gun.
As we were a forward unit (sent in to help set up the goverments of towns after they were liberated) we were the first Allied troops into a village. I can't remember the name of teh village, but we were showered with flowers and fruit. We were forced to stop, as we were in danger of running someone down--and it was there that I tasted by first peach!
