I notice that the kids today use the word 'cool.
I was a newsboy working at l'pool st station during the blitz and only me and the manager mr h irons were working for WH smith bookstalls and on the night of the fire of london. We were watching the the sky trails through the roof of the station and the bombing. It got so bad that he said we should pull the shutters down and take cover in the downstaairs toilets on platform 9.After a while he said I should go home.
I went out to bishopsgate to catch a number 8 bus, but,but when i went out there was a bus upsidedown with its wheels in the air in a large crator!!.
I then decided that I should go and walk home to old ford in bow e3 and i would be late home.My dad was a warden and had heard that l'pool st had been hit, but didn't tell my mum.He was a victorian father and very strict. When I arrived home late, he greated me with a gruff and said ' your late' and he and my mum grabbed me and we all started laughing.
Now that was what I call as real 'cool'!!.
You will see me on the website as a newsboy on the 'Yeo one name society' as Francis G Yeo.
PS I believe that mr Irons was the grandfather of Jeremy Irons he is just an image of him, it would be nice to know. What I saw that night walking home was hell, and we should honour the people that lost there lives in the blitz.
I eventually became a navigator in the RAF I felt that it was payback time. Thats 'cool'
