I used to often use the school shelters.
The police would round us up or sometimes it would be the air raid wardens.
They would take us over to the school to use the shelters instead of our own.
My mum did know when we went over there.
It was more fun using the shelters at school because everyone knew each other.
It was when they bombed Coventry that it was awful.
I did find the war years frightening - the search lights and air raids.
I didn't like the blackouts.
When the electric went out we used candles.
You couldn't light anything until all the curtains were drawn.
