Work for a young man during World War 2
During the war he lived in Eaton in Yorkshire, when the war started he was 17, and was still at school. While he was still at school life carried on as normal, until he left school a year later when he was 18. After he left school he had to keep fire watch twice a week, during these times he would hear planes coming over to bomb Manchester and Coventry but luckily no bombs dropped where he lived. He continued with this work until he was called to the navy. In June 1940 he went to sea in a cruiser heading for Malta, but before he reached Malta the cruiser he was sailing on was hit by one of the first torpedoes. That changed the plans so they then had to divert to Gibraltar. When he returned to England soon after he became an officer in the navy and that is what he continued working as for 3 years until the end of the war.
