This story was submitted to the People's War site by CSV/大象传媒 Radio Nottingham on behalf of Patrick Bettson with his permission. The author fully understands the site's terms and conditions.
Nellie was Patrick's mother and someone who would not be in debt. She saw a 3 piece suite that she wanted for her marital home, even though she was not yet married. She went to the shop and was told she could have the suite and pay for it weekly. But Nellie did not want to take the suite until she had paid for it. So she did pay weekly and when it was fully paid, she asked for it to be delivered. It came on Monday morning and that same night, the factory where it had been delivered from, was bombed and destroyed.
