As a child I lived in tenements, my dad was in the Air Force and went out to Hong Kong, when they got there the whole place was flattened and there was no power whatsoever, before he went dad; a plumber and engineer, a call went out across from Hong Kong for help. He was asked to rebuild the power station. The Japanese who were taken prisoner were sent to work on this, dad was in charge of them all, as they were going round Hong Kong, they came across an orphanage, the nuns were taking people off the streets and starving themselves to feed the kids. Dad helped raise money to feed the kids. They found a little lad; Peter in the gutter, the squadron adopted him. While he was there my mum was pregnant, and went into hospital, in Mossley Hill it was run by SSAFA, a picture appeared in the local newspaper and someone had the picture in Hong Kong, my dad saw it out there. He worked on the power station with the Japanese, he said he was looking for something for my birthday; the 3rd of March. One of the Japanese men said that the 3rd of March was there feast day and so he made a little wooden doll for my dad to send back home. The building was finished ahead of schedule.
