My Grandad lived in Brandon, used to fish for eels in the Little Ouse, made his own eel hives from the local willow from the river bank.(Ouse willow)
He had a large punt and supported by his wife and 14 children would put the hives out at 12pm and collect them in at 4am. The railway would take most of them to London, but he would keep the smaller ones He could never swim,if he fell out of his punt when drunk he crawled on the bottom to land.
My dad was one of 14 children,he met mum at Friday Bridge in Wisbech, she was 21 and he was 34.
My grandad died when he was 98 years old in 1968?
