On the 13th March 1942, my fathers ship, the Sparsholt,( a boom defence vessel), was destroyed by a stray mine just off the pier at sheerness, almost opposite the catholic church. We were given to understand that there were four survivors, but in spite of extensive enquiries by myself and my family, we can find no trace of this in naval records. It is almost as though this never happened and we would like to know why we can find no records at Lloyds, or even going through the marine records on the internet. Has anyone who survived this sinking left any records with their families.
