My mother and father (Margaret Fulton & Cuthbert Cook) met in the 1930’s when both had travelled — Mum from Northern Ireland and Dad from Ayrshire — to Paisley
To become student nurses in Riccatsbar Hospital. They were married in 1940 by Walter S. Watt, Minister at Arthurlie Church of Scotland, Barrhead and held their Wedding Reception in the Tea-rooms of Andrew Gibson &Son, Ltd, High Street, Paisley.
The first born, a daughter and the elder of my sisters, was born in Dalry; Ayrshire in May 1941 on the night Rudolph Hess flew over Scotland. The local doctor attending my mother suggested that the new baby be called Hester after Hess. Needless to say Mum shot his idea down in flames!! And the baby was duly called after her maternal Grandmother.
Before the war ended their family increased by another two daughters, one born 1943 and another 1945.
