It seems appropiate at this break in the proceedings to return to the fate of my two pals, first Harry who had volunteered for the RAFVR in 1941. He went training for Air-Crew duties, to South Africa,Johanusberg, & East London, returning to he UK and eventually joining a Squadron of Bristol Blenhiems.I did not know for sure what had happened to him until recently, although hearing from mutual friends, that he had only got married about a fortnight before he was in killed in 1942.He had apparently
been assigned to a Group, which were strafing German airfields in Holland during the 3rd 1000 Bomber raid on the city of Cologne. Whilst protecting the main force by this action his plane was shot down by a german night-fighter at 01.20am over a Dutch Airfield and he is buried 36 miles north of Brussels,He was a Sgt.Navigator & bomb-aimer.I only learnt of his real demise from a recently published book called "Blenhiems"
and I am greatly indebted to the Author, I still hope to visit his Grave in the future.
