After WW2 my mum's grandad was sent to Germany by the Government. It was secret. He went to a meeting about the war and he said he felt like a spy. England promised to help rebuild Germany after the war and my Great-Grandad needed to open a wool trade.
In the war he was on a patrol boat and got thrown overboard in the big waves. They found him the next day. He got TB and had to go to Switzerland to get beter. The fresh air in the mountains helped to make people better.
My mum's other grandad was in the home guard. One day he was walking along a country road when a German plane flew over head and dropped a bomb which landed next to him. His helmet fell off and landed on his bottom!
The plane also dropped a bomb onto the Majestic Hotel in Harrogate. uckily none of the bombs exploded. He found out that the planes were on their way to Liverpool.
My Great-Grandma was worried her family in London would get bombed by the Germans.
My Grandama's Daddy made Aircraft engines for Rolls Royce in Leeds, and he was captain of the Leeds home-guard.
