As children my brother and sister lived in Hertfordshire during the bombing. My Mother tried to make their life as normal as possible during the day,as most of the bombing was during the night.
My sisters father had been killed in the war, and as it was my sister birthday, my mother tried to get her a special present as she had seen a doll she really wanted. My mother queued for hours and pleaded with the people in charge, and they eventually gave her the doll. My sister was delighted with the doll, but still very sad over the loss of her father.
