VE day at Sydner Road

This story was submitted to the People's War site by a volunteer from CVS on behalf of Constance Benwell (nee Sole) and added to the site with her permission. Constance fully understands the site's terms and conditions.

I was waiting with my friend Gwen to go to the library after school. The other children had gone home. Suddenly there was a tremendous bang - and I was blown clean across the corridor and into a broom cupboard. When I had picked my way out of the jumble of dusters and gas meters my sister and I made our way through the debris to discover that the library opposite was completely demolished.
