This is Charlotte and Sarah of southmoor community school, sunderland entering a memory from a lady in thistledale retirtment home onto the website and they fully understand the website terms and condition of use.
Planes used to drop bombs in Thompson road. I can remember one day looking out the window, and all the sky being bright red because of them.
When World War 2 started they had to open a hospital, which would treat only scabies because that many people had been infected with them. When i was younger i had a dog called scruffy.i can remeber one day scruffy was in the backgarden when all of a sudden planes start to fly over dropping bombs scruffy must off got scarred because the next thing we new there was a knock on the door when my mam opened the door there was a police man standing there holding scruffy by his collar.
My husband used to come home and say he didn't know what was better coming gome and seening the damage the bombs had done or weather being at sea waiting for them to come.
We used to have a book with points on to buy food.
When the bombs went off we had to sit under the stairs as we didnt have a shelter to go to.
The war was a horrible time that i will never forget.
