One of the few...Johnny Gibson was a flyer stationed at RAF Newton. He was known as 'one of the few'. He was my brother-in-law and had many war time medals and had met the Queen. He was shot down twice in bombing raids and usually ended up 'in the drink'.
'Lucky Escape'.
My sister Frances Davies and her husband used to go to the local air-raid shelter together but one day she had a strange feeling and said that she wouldn't go in this shelter ever again. She was adamant and refused to go there and so during the next night's air raid they found a different shelter and stayed there all night. The next day they returned home and found that the other shelter had completely disappeared along with some of the houses in the same road. Many of the houses were rebuilt after the War. My sister always remembers what a lucky escape they had that night.
