AGerman and British planes were fighting over the North Sea. My brother and I were sitting on the granary steps watching. It was dark; very dark. We saw a bicycle light coming down the lane towards the farm . We grabbed our pitchforks and accosted the rider when he reached our gate. We thought he might be a German. It was a local man coming to see our father about a foreman’s job. He got the job and worked at our farm for over thirty years.
A German plane - as we were coming home from Carnaby School one day when there was much aerial activity — a German landed in the field near us, turned around and flew off again!
