Barbara "Bobbie" Williams (Nora's sister)and Winifred Williams (Nora's mother).
I was a trainee nurse at Cardiff Royal Infirmary in 1942 and I remember my
first day on the medical ward. Fanny Gibbons was the ward sister and everyone lived in fear of her. I still remember seeing the list go up which told us which ward we had to go to. I had to go to the most feared ward in the hospital - the medical ward with Fanny Gibbons. I can see her now, plumping up the pillows and straightening the sheets because they weren't at right angles. I remember her collecting me and my first job on the ward was to help her administer last offices. I'd never seen a dead body before - it was a man. I had to wash him from head to foot and make sure all his orifices were plugged to stop any leakages. It wasn't a good first day.
