It was common practice for parents to check once in a while that their children were being treated well while they were working away, the work was hard and most of us were not used to it. An accordion and singing was always around, it cheered the workers up and kept up our practice. We belonged to the famous Swiss Accordion Club which went on a couple of years later to an international competition in Paris at which a select group took home 5 gold medals. One of these was an individual gold for me and it still hangs on the wall to remind me of past glory! (Those were the days!)
